Meet Our Veterinarians...
Dr. Randy Walker is the director of Sun Lakes Animal Clinic, having joined our staff in 1990. Dr. Walker is a 1985 graduate of the Oklahoma State University College of Veterinary Medicine and has been practicing in Arizona for 22 years. Dr. Walker's varied and extensive experience in veterinary medicine includes everything from solo practice ("just me and Jan!") to extremely fast-paced emergency medicine to working alongside 20 other veterinarians under one roof in a large general practice and specialty referral center. Dr. Walker's interest in veterinary medicine dates back to an early age when he helped doctor everything from orphan kittens to stray dogs to chickens to cattle and horses on the 600 acre Oklahoma cattle ranch he grew up on. In addition to his DVM degree, Dr. Walker also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and a minor in chemistry from Oklahoma State University. Dr. Randy Walker is an active member of the American Animal Hospital Association, the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, the Arizona Academy of Veterinary Practice and the American Veterinary Medical Association. His areas of special interest are small animal internal medicine and routine surgery. In addition to his extended family of over 2,500 canine and feline patients he's grown attached to over the last decade and a half while practicing here in the Sun Lakes/Chandler region, Dr. Walker is currently 'owned' by a Lynx-point Siamese cat named Lindy who has him wrapped around her little paw. Dr. Kathryn C. Linden is originally from Wyoming where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Microbiology and was a member of several college honorary societies. She graduated from the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1992. From there Dr. Kat Linden has enjoyed a varied and interesting career in veterinary medicine including a little bit of everything from serving two years in the Peace Corps helping bring a large animal veterinary program to the people of Ecuador, South America during the mid 90’s to being a very successful small animal practitioner in the Phoenix/Chandler area for the last ten years. Dr. Linden is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association the Arizona Academy of Veterinary Practice and the American Association of Feline Practitioners. Her areas of special interest are feline medicine, soft tissue surgery and veterinary internal medicine. Her special interest in aiding the stray cat population in our community has led Dr. Linden to participate actively in local feral cat spay/neuter programs, contributing her surgical skills on her own time, away from her regular veterinary practice. Besides her five year old daughter, Dr. Linden also has five “four legged” children and they are two Shih Tzus named Abby and Domingo, a Chihuahua-mix named Jed, an orange tabby cat named Nuk Shungo (means “my love” in the South American Indian language), a Maine Coon cat named Bagheera, and a grey tabby cat named Ian. Let me tell you more about Dr. Kat Linden... Dr. Barbara Capwell is originally from upstate New York where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science from Cornell University. She graduated Cum Laude (top 10% of her class) from the Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998, whereupon I’m proud to report that Dr. Barbara Capwell was inducted into the Theta Chapter of the Society of Phi Zeta which is the official honor society of veterinary medicine. Phi Zeta membership is by invitation only to the very top veterinary students and veterinarians across the nation. From there Dr. Capwell has enjoyed a varied and interesting career in veterinary medicine including a little bit of everything from practicing alongside eight other veterinarians in a very busy and successful practice in Tucson for five years; to saving pet’s lives in the intense environment of a fast paced emergency animal clinic here in the valley; to most recently practicing as staff veterinarian at the Second Chance Animal Hospital for the Arizona Humane Society in Phoenix. Dr. Capwell is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association and the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. Her areas of special interest are soft tissue and orthopedic surgery in addition to canine and feline internal medicine. We are indeed fortunate to have someone with the credentials and talent of Dr. Barbara Capwell join our staff.
